Anwar, the 'philathropist' for all the wrong reasons

He was in his elements when holding the country's Finance Minister's portfolio. It was a prolific time for this man called Anwar Ibrahim. But then again his rise to 'stardom,' at least among his friends and stalwarts, was all for the wrong reasons. No surprises, for he was known as a philathropic and generous giver of favours and rewards to bosom buddies and cronies. He executed all these well, although finesse and discretion were absent to the watchful eyes of detractors.

His 'special draws', which became more frequent especially when it was time for party elections was known far and wide.Along with this twisted generosity his gambling sins increased. Whatever perceptions that had put him in good stead among his followers still remained strong, for he was quite a master of deception to blinker their eyes.

Today, gambling is still the top cash cow of the triads in Malaysia. Throw in the prostitution rackets, shady spas (pun intended), china dolls (not the kind easily broken), and others, it is, of course, an attractive proposition. Ronnie Liu knows this, although he pretends that he doesn't.

So, of course it is a very big irony to hear Anwar trying hard to turn the tables around and talk about illegalising gambling. Such lofty rhetoric! A mockery for one given to the sarcastic branding of being the King of Gamblers, facilitating such vice by approving special draws.

So, why so eager and brazen in pushing for banning gambling? DAP's welfare and sustenance owes much to black economy. Ronnie Liu, Tony Pua, Kit Siang, Guan Eng all ride on the high profitability of black economy, in order to sustain their winning streak.Even PAS uses proceeds from this black economy to help 'finance' some of its operations. They all have their interests to care for.

It is politics, the art of the possible. If the honest way fails, just go the other route and turn a blind eye to sin.

If the value of black economy holds sway at around 10 billion, it is to Pakatan Rakyat a huge sum. This is their capital for the 13th General Elections.Black economy can be used for many things - for violent street demonstrations for the benefit of quite a few pakatan MPs, among others.

So, Anwar looks very stupid indeed to spin a holier than thou image by going on a nationwide anti gambling roadshow...
