Major-General John Carpenter: former Director of Movements (British Army) dies



Major-General V. H. J. Carpenter, CB, MBE, Director of Movements (Army), 1973-75, and National President of the 1940 Dunkirk Veterans Association, 1991-2000, died on July 8, 2009, aged 88 . He was born on June 21, 1921.

Carpenter caught the tail end of operations in support of the Federation of Malaysia in defeating the “confrontation” mounted by President Sukarno of Indonesia and established his reputation as a “movements man” of marked ability.
